The Simpsons, the beloved animated series now in its 35th year, is set to feature its largest guest role ever in an exciting two-part Christmas special. The episodes will star British mentalist and illusionist Derren Brown, who plays himself in a storyline that promises humor, heart, and holiday chaos.
A Holiday Tale with a Twist
The special, titled O C’Mon All Ye Faithful, premieres on Disney+ on December 17, 2024 exactly 35 years after The Simpsons debuted with its first-ever Christmas episode in 1989. This milestone event sees Brown hypnotizing Homer Simpson, convincing him that he is Santa Claus. The resulting mix of Homer’s antics and Brown’s psychological tricks makes this one of the most anticipated episodes in the show’s history.
According to Carolyn Omine, a longtime writer for the series, this guest role is unlike any other:
“In terms of lines and screen time, it is probably one of the largest guest-starring roles we’ve ever had. Derren [Brown] is fantastic, charming, and very funny in the episode.”
Derren Brown on His Simpsons Debut
Derren Brown, known for his sharp wit and mind-bending illusions, expressed his excitement about joining the iconic show.
“This is the best thing that’s happened in my life so far. I had just started writing my new touring show, Only Human, when I got the call. I was asked to keep it quiet, but I immediately told everyone I met!”
Brown even joked about fully immersing himself in The Simpsons universe, saying, “I’m not against stepping out on stage with bright yellow makeup.”
A Nostalgic Nod to the Show’s Roots
This new Christmas special connects fans back to the very first full-length Simpsons episode, Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire. Originally aired on December 17, 1989, the episode introduced viewers to Homer’s struggles as a mall Santa and ended with the family adopting their beloved dog, Santa’s Little Helper.
Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire remains a fan favorite during the holidays. IGN ranked it #4 on their list of the best holiday specials, praising its humor and heart.
“With the off-beat sense of humor we’ve come to love from The Simpsons and a story about the value of family, this special is a must-watch every Christmas.”
